A2 Advanced Portfolio: Artist Research - Post One: Image and Genre

The band members of 'Bloc Party' identify themselves mainly through their music itself. They are a subgenre of Rock, Rave, and Pop. This diverse style of music makes it easier to listen to by multiple social cultures, than if it were one strict genre. Their style may compare to 'Pendulum' which is a Rave/metal genred artist. 'Pendulum' may be more well known and popular than 'Bloc Party' due to its more melodic tracks, as 'Bloc Party' has some tracks that may be a bit too repetitive and lacking in melody.
'Bloc Party' did not change their image. They dress in a mainstream or indie fashion and their music videos and CD covers have always been conceptual and artistically produced. The only generic conventions they use in their videos are setting themselves in dark rooms, and having scinarios woven through their videos; whether it be about politics, the media, or relationships; subjects that are often touched upon by musicians.
