A2 Advanced Portfolio: Reflective Evaluation- Question Two (Part 2/2) - Existing Official Texts

This is Bloc Party's official website's 'Home Page'. The layout is minimalistic on content but no space on the page is absent of any imagery or text. The objective of this website is mainly designed to keep consumers up to date on the latest news to do with Bloc Party as well as their gigs and releases. The website's layout could be seen as innovative because of the simple nature of its design and still manages to appeal in its appearance. Perhaps the simple layout allows for it to be easy to navigate and avoids long paragraphs of text that could easily overwhelm the page.
Our website takes the less minimalistic approach as we added a few extra features such as the music-box and advert to promote our product more thoroughly. Our layout is also different, presenting more text and links for our consumers to navigate through; we wanted to ensure that our consumers had access to as much information as possible so that they would be up to date with the latest releases. We also wished to show images of the whole band so that our target audience could see the artists behind Bloc Party.

Existing Bloc Party Music Videos include cinematic shots and effects adding a sense of energy to bring excitement to viewers as they watch the video. After a consumer has watched the video they may find themselves more persuaded to purchase the music so that when they listen to it they can remember the excitement they experienced whilst watching the song's video. The video is also in a format that can be played on music channels, so potential consumers can discover the music via the television.

The digipaks for Bloc Party all have similarities with each other; by having the conventions of conceptual photography relating to the album and some have images isolated in boxes in the centre of the front cover. Also the digipaks consistently have minimal text and images on them. This may be used as to entice consumers into buying the album through curiosity rather than having massive images and texts that jump out at the target market shouting "Buy me!" We maintained this idea of minimalist content on the digipak; designing a digipak with a similar layout to previous Bloc Party digipaks to make it recognizable by those familiar with Bloc Party's conceptual, visual appeal.
